Instructor of Basic English Riding and Horsemanship
It is a real pleasure for me to be part of the outstanding team at Hearthstone Riding Stables. Even as a very young girl for as long as I can remember I have always loved horses, and I so very much enjoy sharing with others my love of all things equine!
Through all my equestrian adventures one thing has held constant- the joy I feel in helping others develop their skills with these majestic and marvelous animals. Nothing is more fulfilling for me than watching riders of all ages develop their confidence and competence on horseback. I truly have the best job! My goal is to help students forge a fundamental relationship with horses that will increase the enjoyment of both horse and rider for a lifetime. Whether your goals are showing locally or beyond or perhaps just learning more about the amazing beings that are horses, my experiences can help you find your best path to success.
I have been involved in many forms of equestrian sports since 1966. I came up through the eventing and hunter/jumper ranks in the Chicago area and was awarded several year-end Championship awards in those disciplines. Later I was a working student for the Pan American Games Gold Medalist Donald Cheska and his family. In addition I handled and started young horses and earned my bachelor’s degree from Barat College in Lake Forest, Illinois.
For several years I operated and co-managed a 70-stall show barn in Dundee, Illinois, featuring Natalie Lamping as trainer. There we hosted, among other things, a Dressage Olympic Selection Trial. During this time I also successfully taught many novice equestrians in balance seat equitation. In addition, I bred, broke and rehabilitated racehorses.
Upon marrying and moving to Texas I spent some years devoted to family and the homeschooling of our sons, Sean and Bret, while helping develop our family dog boarding, grooming and pet supplies business, which my husband Gary and I started in 1984.
As our children have grown, I have once again become involved with my beloved horses. Since returning to the sport in the early 2000’s, I have been fortunate enough to win several championships in Dressage, Hunter/Jumpers, and Combined Training with my wonderful 17 hand Irish Sport Horse, Hallo Money. As an Airport Ranger I have enjoyed many wonderful trail rides and have completed endurance competitions. In the spring of 2006 I was involved with The Gallery Racing Team in California using Cavalia and T-Touch techniques to develop young racehorses. I feel my varied equestrian endeavors leave me uniquely qualified to help and teach others on their path to greater horse knowledge.
Since joining Hearthstone in July of 2006, I have had the pleasure of teaching many adults and children the many wonders of the equine world. A number of my students have excelled in their equestrian pursuits. Students I have started in riding have won everything from local championships to a national dressage award.
